The pH or potential of hydrogen is a measure of the acidic or alkalinity of a substance. It is measured by a scale of 0-14. Human hair, scalp oil, sebum pH usually ranges from 4.5 to 5.5. Which is acidic according to scale. This natural hair acidity protects the hair and scalp from fungus and bacteria and keeps the cuticle healthy. Some hair products disrupt this natural pH. From the scale below you can easily understand how much the range will be acid, natural, and alkali.

Ways to determine if your hair is pH balanced

- If you have a fungal or bacterial attack on the scalp, you will find that your hair is very alkaline. This means that the pH of the product you are using for hair is above 7. Which damages the normal acidic sebum of your hair. This sebum protects your hair from fungal attacks.

- If your hair is curly, then the cuticle of your hair is already open and the pH of your hair is much higher than normal due to this openness.

- If the lack of proper pH of straight hair can occur unless you pay attention to the cosmetics of your chosen hair or the selection is wrong.

- After coloring, the normal pH of the hair is lost a lot. This is because most coloring kits contain alkaline substances.

- When you see that your hair is dry, looking lifeless, breaking easily, then you should understand that your hair is not in the right pH range.
